All nine starters collected a hit for Plainview, eliminating host Geraldine’s 14-3 in the opening round of the DeKalb County Baseball Tournament.
Brayden Lingerfelt (5 IP, 3 H, 3 R (1 ER), 9 K) The only way kept the Bulldogs off balance, retiring 12 of the last 15 batters he faced.
“I struggled with my curveball early, but once I corrected that, I was able to settle down,” Lingerfelt said.
Trey Rutledge (1-3, R, 2B, 5 RBI) led the Bears offense with five RBIs, as Plainview scored in every inning.
Drew McInnes (2-3, R, RBI) collected a pair of hits for Plainview, while Braden Padgett (1-3, 2 R), Parker Gonder (1-2, 2 R), Riley Bannister (1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI), Eli Sampson (1-2, 2 R), Creek Johnson (1-3, 2 RBI) and Lingerfelt (1-2, 3B, R, 2 RBI) each scored or drove in two runs.
“We played like we expect to play today. I feel we are one of the best teams in the county, and we’ll be ready to go tomorrow,” Plainview Head Coach Phil Johnson said.
Jordon Lankford (1-3, 2 R, 2B) finished a magnificent season for a young Geraldine team that started four eighth graders and three ninth graders for most of the season.
Easton Davis (1-2), Braxton Franklin (1-3, R), and Reece Wilson (0-2, RBI) also provided offense for the Bulldogs
“You are never satisfied with the season, but how much these kids improved has been a pleasant surprise. Despite our youth, these kids never gave up, and I’m excited to see how they improve in the next few years,” Geraldine Head Coach Jamie Gilbert said.
