The Tullahoma High School swim team sent six members to the MTHSSA State Championships over the weekend.
The group of Jessica Jones, Lexi Lester, Olivia Murphy, Ellie Uehlein, Bryleigh Holder and Will Nelson headed to Knoxville on Thursday prior to the meet.
Olivia Murphy brought home a couple of medals after finishing sixth in the Women’s 50 yard freestyle and eighth in the 100 free. Murphy finished the 50 in 24.29 seconds and the 100 in 53.02. The Women’s 200 Medley Relay team of Jessica Jones, Murphy, Ellie Uehlein and Bryleigh Holder broke the school record by 1.97 seconds in the event prelim. They finished at 29 with a time of two minutes and 3.00 seconds. They missed qualifying for the final by four spots. Freshman Wildcats Will Nelson knocked off 4.84 seconds on his 500 free time, finishing with a time of 5:17.47. The new time means Nelson has made the Southeastern cut for USA swim. Uehlein finished the 100 fly in 1:05.82. Jones competed in the 50 free and had a time of 27.48. The 200 free relay team of Murphy, Jones, Lexi Lester and Holder finished with a time of 1:54.00.
The THS women’s team at State ranked 22 out of 57 teams. Murphy is ranked the ninth swimmer in Tennessee.
The Wildcats’ swimming teams were at Regionals on Jan. 26. The 200 free relay team finished ninth with a time of 1.46.65. Claire Fogarty competed in the 50 and 100 free. She had a time of 28.43 in the 50 and 1:06.45 in the 100. Holder had a time of 2:32.23 in the 200 free. Jones finished the 200 free at 2:14.04 and the 100 free in 59.37 seconds. Lester the 200 free in 2:32.31. She had a time of 1:16.22 in the 100 yard backstroke. The 200 medley Relay team finished at 12 in 2:03.15. Murphy finished top 10 in the 50 free and 100 back. She placed fourth in the 50 with a time of 24.70 and sixth in the 100 with a time of 59.39. Mary Murray finished the 200 free in 2:33.93. Nelson finished 21 in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.26. He finished the 100 fly in 1:01.78. Will Swiger finished the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.69. He had a time of 56.03 in the 100 free. Uehlein had a time of 2:13.21 in the 200 free and 59.17 seconds in the 100 free. The women’s team finished 11 in Regionals.
The Lady Wildcats broke six records during this season. Olivia Murphy broke the 50 yard free at Regionals with her finish of 24.70 seconds. She also broke the 100 yard backstroke at Regionals with a time of 59.39 seconds. Murphy broke the 500 yard freestyle on Nov. 7 at Franklin County with a time of 5:41.95. The 200 medley relay team of Jessica Jones, Murphy, Ellie Uehlein and Bryleigh Holder broke the record at the State Championship meet with a time of 2:03.00. The 200 free relay team of Jones, Claire Fogarty, Uehlein and Murphy broke the record at Regionals with a time of 1:46.65. The 400 free relay team of Jones, Ella Farmer, Uehlein and Murphy set a new record on Dec. 12 at Sewanee with a time of 4:07.56.
